Enough of Saying R.I.P to our Future Leaders
March 6, 2019Our Society is Fractured
March 6, 2019The biggest thing I have learned over the years working with young people and being a parent to 4 children ranging from 18 – 5, is that young people can be compared to sponges. They absorb so many things from parents/carers, friends, environment, music, schools etc. From the moment they able to understand things their brains automatically begins to take things on board and starts to steer them either in a positive or negative way.
There is a statement that says, ‘do what I say, but don’t do what I do’. Now, when I critically analyze that statement in the context of this article I am immediately unnerved with the knowledge that action speaks louder than words. How can I as a parent say to my children, ‘don’t do this but I still do the contrary’? How can we as a society cry out that the youths are getting out of hands and we do not know how to deal and deter them from a life of crime and exposure to a dangerous lifestyle when all the time they see something different happening at home.
